Iran’s H1 mineral exports up 15% y/y

TEHRAN – Iran’s exports from mining sector exceeded $3.4 billion in the first half of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20 – September 21) registering a 15 percent rise compared to the same period last year, Tasnim news agency reported on Wednesday.

According to the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO), the country exported $2.9 billion worth of mineral products in the same period last year.

During the mentioned time span the volume of exports from this area also witnessed a significant growth with this year’s 25.5 million tons versus the last year’s 20.4 million tons.

Based on IMIDRO, cupper chain products had the most significant growth in the said time period so that the value of exports for this group rose by $383 million registering a 472 percent growth year-on-year.

In terms of value, steel chain products accounted for the biggest share of the H1’s exports value, with $1.3 billion worth of such products being sent to target markets. This group also recorded an 11 percent growth compared to the same period last year.

Meanwhile, half-yearly imports of mineral products registered a 25 percent decline. Last year’s $2.4 billion fell to $1.8 billion this year. 

During the said period, the biggest share of imports was related to lead chain followed by molybdenum and chromium.
